The Today Show Takes on Cell Phone Radiation

Yesterday morning, The Today Show aired a great feature on cell phone radiation and the outdated FCC regulations that are supposed to have our safety in mind. The segment highlighted some excellent points such as how the FCC regulations were established 20 years ago for a 200 pound male and that children are "now exposed to an exponentially greater amount of Radio Frequency than any adult will ever be in a lifetime" according to the American Academy of Pediatrics. The feature also likens cell phones to low powered microwave ovens; an alarming, yet accurate comparison.

This knowledge prompted the American Academy of Pediatrics to write a letter to the FCC requesting the re-assess their limits, stating "current FCC standards do not account for the unique vulnerability and use patterns specific to pregnant women and children." The FCC has since responded that they are reviewing their standards.

The ultimate recommendation from the Today Show is that we increase the distance between us and our devices by means of speaker phone, wired headsets and by not storing on our body. While this would be effective, how realistic is it that you, and especially your children, will do this?

That's where we come in...
