iPhones Emit Twice as Much Radiation as Samsung Phones - Both Still Harmful

With more than 590 million iPhones sold worldwide - within the period from 2007 to 2014 - and more than 31 billion dollars in revenues, Apple holds one of the top spots in the almost half a billion worth mobile industry. The growing number of mobile consumers is alarming. Even more so, the power of a witty marketing campaign behind this new and improved technology, integrated into the next mobile phone model, that successfully camouflages the danger behind the constant cell phone use.

Recently, things got heated after Apple's announcement that the new iPhone7 and iPhone7 Plus will come with wireless headphones. Meaning, no headphone jack available with these models. The whole public and many experts expressed their concerns regarding the increased level of radiation iPhone 7 will emit. As studies show, their concerns are justified.

According to South Korea's National Radio Research Agency report - presented at a committee hearing - iPhone devices emit twice as much radiation as recently launched Samsung devices, 1.166 watts per kilogram to 0.517 W/kg, respectively. The maximum  SAR limit allowed both in South Korea and the United States is 1.6 W/kg.

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) requires for every cell phone model to undergo an SAR (Specific Absorption Rate) test.

WHAT DOES THE SAR TEST REPRESENT?

According to FCC, "SAR is a measure of the rate of RF (radiofrequency) energy absorption by the body from the source being measured – in this case, a cell phone. SAR provides a straightforward means for measuring the RF exposure characteristics of cell phones to ensure that they are within the safety guidelines set by the FCC."

However, the Commission also stated, “Many people mistakenly assume that using a cell phone with a lower reported SAR value necessarily decreases a user’s exposure to RF emissions…, adding, “a single SAR value does not provide sufficient information about the amount of RF exposure under typical usage conditions to reliably compare individual cell phone models”.

In conclusion, “the SAR values collected by the FCC are intended only to ensure that the cell phone does not exceed the FCC’s maximum permissible exposure level…”

Therefore, many studies confirm what the Commission itself has stated, putting an emphasis on the question, ‘Are the legal boundaries enough to warn and fully protect us?’

In 2012, the U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO) criticized the 1996 adopted SAR test, stating that the test is inadequate to determine the way people use cell phones nor it included the modern circumstances that can increase radiation – for example today’s lifestyle, children use cell phones and their bodies absorb twice as much as the bodies of an adult and so on.

Another things that adds to the overwhelming situation, "The cell phone is not tested directly against the body because most cell phones would fail the SAR test as the radiation absorption increases dramatically when the cell phone is close to the body." - according to Berkley’s Prof. J. Moskowitz.

Cell phones include 'hidden' warning on safety radiation measures, such as iPhone’s, which says, “SAR measurement may exceed the FCC exposure guidelines for body-worn operation if positioned less than 15 mm (5/8 inch) from the body (e.g. when carrying iPhone in your pocket)". However, the warning is not visibly displayed, but written in tiny letters, placed at an unobvious area.

Unfortunately, the debate whether cell phones’ radiation level is harmful to humans, has reached the point of augmenting which cell phone model emits less radiation. For example, Samsung Galaxy Note 5 had a level of SAR measured at only 0.23 W/kg. It is far below the recommended maximum level, which is positive compared to its competition – since iPhones are almost crossing the red line.

DOES THIS IMPLY THAT SAMSUNG IS SAFER THAN IPHONE?

Not at all. The misbelief that cell phones are safe is slowly - but surely! - fading. Thanks to the International Scientist Appeal on the danger of cell phone radiation, the efforts of many experts that spend years of long analysis on the EMF and ELF effect on humans, and today’s developed technology, we can gather the right amount of data that proves the danger that surrounds us. The bad news is, things are not going to get better. More radiation exposure is expected with the launch of the new 5G technology.

HOW TO FULLY PROTECT YOURSELF?

Most experts recommend following a few simple safety tips on reducing RF exposure from cell phones including:

  1. Use an independent, lab tested anti-radiation case
  2. Minimize the amount of time spent using cell phone
  3. Place distance between the head and the cell phone by using speakers
  4. Turn off wireless devices at bedtime

The question is, are you and your closest family willing to follow them? After all, these 'simple' steps are not as simple as they sound for millions of people. It is well-known that people can forget, or are too busy on other priorities, instead of paying attention to some of these rules. Meaning, you need a different approach to protection.

SafeSleeve’s laboratory tested Radiation Blocking Technology, which blocks over 99% of RF radiation, 92% of ELF radiation, and thermal energy, offers you the different approach you need. SafeSleeves’ products have been independently tested in a Federal Communications Commission-certified laboratory. Our cell-phone and laptop cases are designed to match every cell phone brand individually. Therefore, in our collection you will find both radiation blocking iPhone and radiation blocking Galaxy case, anti-radiation iPhone and anti-radiation Galaxy case, which will serve as your future cell phone radiation shield.
