Earlier this week, a Superior Court judge ordered California’s Department of Public Health to disclose to the public the documents that explored the potential health risks of long-term cell phone use. This is in relation to the case filed by the director of the Center for Family and Community Health at UC Berkeley’s School of Public Health, Dr. Joel Moskowitz, against the state of California. Dr. Moskowitz took legal action against the state for refusing to divulge the said findings.

In an interview with KPIX 5, Dr. Moskowitz explained the reason that prodded him to sue the state. “I would like this document to see the light of day because it will inform the public that there is concern within the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) that cell phone radiation is a risk, and it will provide them with some information about how to reduce those risks.”, he said.

Strangely enough, the “fact sheet” was brought up to date numerous times since it was prepared in 2010. Apparently, the CPDH is deliberately suppressing the release of the document. The legal team for the CPDH contended that releasing the report to the public would potentially result in public fear and panic.

What’s New with Radiofrequency Electromagnetic Fields (EMFs)?

Truth be told, we’ve already heard or read somewhere that cell phone use can lead to cancer. The EMF’s produced by cell phones are said to have an impact on surrounding cells and tissues that have been subjected to this type of radiation. That said, CPDH’s two-page document brings new light to the science behind the relationship of cell phone radiation and cancer.

As per the released guidelines, several studies have been found to correlate phone use and brain cancer. According to the health professionals in CPDH’s Environmental Health Investigations Branch, “people with certain kinds of brain cancer were more likely to have used cell phones for 10 years or more. Most of the cancers were on the same side of the head that people usually held their cell phones.” There are also other research that associate fertility problems and brain cancer with exposure to EMFs.

The document also suggests that children’s brains are vulnerable to EMF exposures. In fact, “EMFs can pass deeper into a child’s brain than an adult’s. Also, the brain is still developing through the teen years, which may make children and teens more sensitive to EMF exposure.” This is why the report recommends that parents should control the cell phone use of their children. The same precautions must also be considered by pregnant women.

How You Can Protect Yourself from EMFs

The experts from CPDH advise cell phone users to establish a safe distance from their electronic devices. This can be achieved by putting your phone in loudspeaker when fielding or receiving a call. Alternatively, you can use a headset. Everyone should also be cautious when carrying their phones. Avoid placing them in your pockets or putting them directly on your body. The guidelines also warn the public to refrain from using their cell phones when there is weak reception. EMF emission is at its peak when your phone has one or two bars.

Aside from these self-imposed measures, the most convenient method to reduce exposure is to use lab tested anti-radiation cases that can block all types of radiation from your electronics. SafeSleeve offers just that for your smartphones, laptops and tablets, which are lab tested and proven to reduce EMF radiation by up to 99 percent.
