Phone Radiation is Decreasing Fertility in Males at an Alarming Rate.

Testosterone is an important hormone for men as it is essential in the development of male reproductive tissues. It is also linked in certain characteristics, such as muscle gain and growth of body hair. Moreover, testosterone is crucial for male fertility.

Research shows that the decrease in testosterone level in men comes with age and other factors like poor eating habits and a sedentary lifestyle. Technological advancements and the proliferation of the Internet of Things (IoT) also contribute to a lower testosterone level in guys, according to scientists.

An article from the Fertility and Sterility Journal said that men who keep their cell phones near their testicles are at high risk of having fertility issues. This is because the testicles are exposed to radiofrequency electromagnetic waves, which in turn, lead to changes in the motility of sperm and a decrease in sperm count.

Effects of Handheld and Wireless Devices on Testosterone

On average, a smartphone can emit 50 milligauss of radiation, much more than the human body should be exposed to. To find out how cell phone radiation decreases sperm quality, researchers from the Center for Reproductive Medicine at the Glickman Urological and Kidney Institute at the Cleveland Clinic analyzed semen samples from 32 men.

After exposing these samples to 850 MHz frequency cell phone at a 2.5 cm distance, results showed that the sperm quality was impaired, causing lower sperm motility and viability.

Aside from smartphones, laptops are also said to be “invisible” testosterone enemies due to the electromagnetic frequency radiation (EMF) emitted from these devices. In fact, laptops release up to 200 milligauss of radiation, which is three times more than average cell phone emissions.

Too much laptop use decreases the quality of sperm in men

Another research published in the Journal of Fertility and Sterility illustrated the negative effects of laptop use in the quality of sperm in men. Results indicate that men who were subjected to Internet-connected laptops have decreased fertility.

Moreover, an article from the International Journal of Pharmacy and Life Sciences explained the negative effects of EMF. Because of the heat associated with laptop use, the sperm experiences DNA fragmentation, affecting its motility.

Increase Your Testosterone Level and Maintain Sperm Quality

In this Internet age, using laptops and cell phones is inevitable. As such, scientists recommend keeping your laptops at a safe distance from your genitals by putting a pillow on the crotch area before placing your laptop. It is also best to use laptop tables and stands when doing your work online.

Men are also advised to refrain from keeping their phone in the pockets near the groin unless it is in airplane mode. In addition, health advocates warn smartphone users to avoid fielding or receiving calls when there is poor reception. Studies show that the EMF radiation is twice as strong under this circumstance.

Your Cell Phone Doesn’t Belong Below Your Belt Line

There are several studies out there that suggest RF wave damages sperm count, while others will suggest “probably not.” However, a 2018 study found evidence that “RF-Electromagnetic exposure negatively affects sperm quality,”  while another concluded that “long exposure” to electromagnetic waves from mobile phones was associated with a decrease in the number of mature sperm.
